Happy Birthday Buddha Baby!

Today we celebrated Andrew's 1st Birthday!  We were so excited and Andrew must have known that something was going on because he took a 3 hour nap to prepare for the festivities.

I made Andrew his very first birthday cupcakes (white cake with cream cheese frosting).  Dustin found the pirate cupcake liners and sprinkles for fun.

Andrew has yet to learn proper fire safety because he kept trying to touch the flame of his candle...or maybe it was the frosting?

Andrew's first bite of birthday cupcake!

He's still thinking about it.  Well, he must have liked it because he ate almost half of his cupcake!

After dinner, Dustin and the guys went outside for a little game of frisbee.  Andrew and I enjoyed watching them play and getting a little bit of fresh air.

Andrew has discovered that he loves the grass!  He hasn't tried to crawl off of the blanket yet, but knows that he can touch and pull things that are within his reach.

Dandelions are considered a delicacy to some...

...but not to Andrew.  :)

After trying to eat everything he could pull out of the ground (I'm pretty sure he ate some grass and leaves), Andrew was satisfied with pulling up the grass and throwing it on the blanket.

Andrew had a fantastic 1st birthday and we can't believe we have had this little munchkin in our lives for an entire year.  He has been the best baby and can't wait to see what the future holds for him.

Best Gift Ever!

Tomorrow is Andrew's big day - he turns the Big 0-1!  This afternoon the whole family decided to enjoy the fresh air, sunshine and fantastic weather to do a little gardening.  While Dustin was planting our onions and potatoes in the garden, Andrew and I were basking in the late afternoon sun.  All of a sudden, Andrew stood up, wobbled a little while he gained his balance, and took one...tiny...baby...step!  Then plopped back onto the blanket.  Unfortunately, Dustin was not close enough to see Andrew and he didn't do it again.

Although I have no pictures to share with you of this milestone, the memory of my little boy taking his first step, outside with the sun shining down on him, will stay with me forever.  This is the best gift he could ever give me!

Laundry time

Andrew thought he would help me with some laundry tonight.  Apparently, I was doing it all wrong.  He decided that all of the clean clothes should be on the floor.

After he was thoroughly satisfied, he decided that his work was done.

It's party time!

Andrew's first birthday is quickly approaching!  In just two short weeks, our little monkey will be turning 1!  How time flies by...

We will be flying back to Oklahoma for Easter and will be fortunate enough to celebrate Andrew's birthday with his whole extended family!  We will not be having a birthday party here in Indiana because it is hard with Dustin's less than typical work schedule, but I don't think Andrew will know any different.

Below is the invitation for his party that I will be mailing out this week.  Super cute and can't wait to celebrate Andrew's big day!

Who needs a bottle?

For a few months now, we have been working with Andrew to get him used to using a sippy cup.  We have tried three different brands and the last one seemed to be working.

The last couple of weeks, I have been using my gigantic hospital cup with straw as a container for my water during my workouts.  Well, Andrew is obsessed with anything that he is not supposed to have and has been sucking on the end of the straw.  I didn't think he would be able to get any water out, but I was once again proven wrong by my son that he is fully capable of doing whatever he sets his mind to.  Not only did he suck out water, but he really enjoyed it (and back washed into my water)!

So, during my last errand run, I decided to buy him his own set of straw sippy cups and see what would happen.  With these cups you have to suck a little harder because there is a spill proof valve and I wasn't sure if he was able to do it, but like I said, this baby keeps proving me wrong.  Andrew sat there fascinated with his new cup and used his straw like a champ!  Before I knew it...he had actually drank all of his water!  He never even did that with his regular sippy cup.  All I have to say is, success!  Bottle?  Who needs a stinkin' bottle?

Too cool for school!

We found the cutest hat for Andrew to wear at Baby Gap.  We had been looking for one like this for awhile and since Easter is quickly approaching, it has been very easy locating one.

Surprisingly, Andrew wore this hat for like 15 minutes.  He normally pulls any thing that covers his head and throws it to the floor.  This must have been a sign that he was meant to have this hat!

Unfortunately, when I put on his shirt that I bought him and wanted him to model it for me, he decided to show me that he was not pleased with my motives.  Daddy was not sympathetic and decided to mock Andrew at the same time.  :)
